For Students

Automotive Service Educational TechnologyResponding to the need for qualified service technicians, the GM Automotive Service Educational Program (ASEP) allows GM dealerships and ACDelco TSS ISCs to participate in programs that bring students together with their dealerships and service centers. GM ASEP incorporates advanced automotive technical training with a strong academic foundation of math, reading, and electronics, in both analytical and technical skills. Students earn an Associate Degree while working and learning on the job, resulting in a solid education combined with invaluable work experience.

GM ASEP is a strategic alliance between students, GM, GM dealers, ACDelco TSS service centers and over 80 carefully selected colleges and universities in North America. Since 1979, General Motors' continued commitment to identify and support GM ASEP colleges and universities has produced over 13,000 graduate service technicians. The College of Southern Idaho joined in General Motors’ mission in 1982 and has provided training to several hundred students and technicians since then:

What's In It For You?

You can become a technician who is…

  • Trained on state of the art GM products and components.
  • Employed and productive before completing college training.
  • Trained on the latest diagnostic and service procedures.
  • Trained to "fix it right" the first time.
  • Prepared to advance when opportunity knocks because of training in broad areas such as math, science, computers and communication.

You will be entering a career field with one of the fastest growing wages in America and earning potential limited only by your desire and willingness to work.

Earn while you learn at your sponsoring work site.  It is possible to earn enough money during on-the-job training to completely offset the cost of your education.

Program Overview

The GM ASEP program at CSI teaches exclusively on current GM products. These programs allow students to alternate between attending college and working at a sponsoring GM dealership or ACDelco TSS service center for approximately two years.

  • The College of Southern Idaho ASEP program is certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence/National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (ASE/NATEF), ensuring that training meets or exceeds industry standards.
  • GM provides instructor training on the latest trends in technology.
  • GM provides new vehicles, training components, and training aids for students to work on and learn from in a closely supervised and structured environment.
  • General theory and basic information are applied.
  • You will earn while you learn for up to 40% of the 20 months you are in school.
  • You will be entering a career that is in high demand with one of the fastest growing wages in America.
  • You have a job when you come into the program and a job when you leave if you have proven yourself.

Program Goal
Our goal is to provide the students with the knowledge and training required by an entry level technician to work on modern vehicles and provide life long learning skills that will be required as an automotive technician.

Join a Select Few
The College of Southern Idaho offers the only ASEP program for the Idaho, Montana and Wyoming area. We are a comprehensive community college located at 315 Falls Avenue in Twin Falls, Idaho. We have maintained a reputation of offering high quality technical and academic educational opportunities to all who wish to attend.

There are a limited number of spaces (16) available in the ASEP program and students are selected on the basis of admissions test scores and the candidate’s ability to secure a GM sponsor. Due to the co-op schedule and 8-week blocks, all necessary academic classes for the associate degree are scheduled accordingly during the two-year program. It is important that interested students and dealers sign up to participate in the program today.
